What I do is really not serving the core of human
Things created are either feeding the core of you or the means to feeding the core of you.
But as time evolved, things are becoming none of the above.
What a human need could be, for example, not starving each day, rest well, being needed and touched by empathizing through stories. Like farmer makes food other can eat, softens soil to nurtures seeds. Like chef transfers ingredients into experience and memory, feed the happiness to people. Like teacher passes knowledge on to curious offsprings. Like dog accompanies so joy and bonds find their ways to you.
Human make ways to find peace, to be free and to be fair to the differences by nature so they feel fulfilled in core of them. We thus create law, money, trading to our lives. Those evolved thousands of years and mastered by individuals. However, on the way to crafting the rules to feed our real needs, we lose tracks of this original purpose. Money is no longer helping cultivating happiness but equals to happiness. School doesn’t act as a place of knowledge but how you’d show your privilege and ambition. Product is promoted to the markets so consumers desire them.
Money is never happiness but a mean to happiness, freedom and fairness. It should bring harmony but comparison.
School serves as a mean to passing knowledge to generations, bring freedom.
Product is nothing but a by-product of the trading, desire and rules.
What I am actually doing as a UX designer doesn’t help student build confidence to understand the world and themselves, doesn’t help them know the role of the school better, and doesn’t help them become a better one. The “business goal” we all have in mind is helping them to graduate by taking money from their already-thin-allowance savings.
I admire how animation industry are doing. Telling a human story to not just entertain one but deepen ones understanding of the core of the human. The story could be shallow but the meaning is straightforward, just as the happiness is straightforward but, complicated.
